Congress has taken a bold move with “The Crack vs. Cocaine” sentencing controversy and have decided to pass the “fair sentencing act”, which would lessen the penalty for the possession of crack cocaine and make it fair to the sentencing for possession of cocaine.
Since the boom of crack cocaine in the mid 80′s- The laws have been stronger against the possession of crack rock which is found primarily in urban communities…powder cocaine is mainly used by middle to upper class whites.
The law, which was enacted in 1986, allowed an individual in possession of 5 grams of crack to receive the same prison term as a person convicted of trafficking 500 grams of powder cocaine. If passed, the bill would also eliminate the five-year mandatory minimum for first time possession of crack.
“Politicians and the U.S. Sentencing Commission have for years acknowledged the unfairness of the system, but no one wanted to look soft on crime,”claims Julie Stewart- the president of Families Against Mandatory Minimums.
During his presidential campaign, President Obama agreed that the sentencing was unfair and claimed that “the wide gap in sentencing cannot be justified and should be eliminated.”
The bill didn’t come without any opposition, with Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas speaking out against the bill, saying the 1986 law was enacted at a time when the crack cocaine epidemic was producing a rise in violence within minority communities and that enacting the bill would be a mistake.
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., who sponsored the bill, brought up the fact that while Blacks make up 30 percent of crack users, they account for more than 80 percent of those convicted of federal crack offenses.
The bill is being sent to President Obama for final approval and signature.

In a new interview with Time Out magazine, M.I.A. goes on the attack against
pop star/attention whore Lady Gaga, she also takes a few shots at the queen of all media, Oprah Winfrey.
Discussing the recent Metropolitan Ball in New York, she said:
“She [Oprah Winfrey] made this huge speech at the ball praising Lady Gaga and about how she is helping Americans to be the best of themselves. There’s millions of other Americans who represent that for me.”
“Is it about numbers? About how much you’re selling? Is it truly about the journey?,” she continued. “Because Lady Gaga’s journey isn’t that difficult: to go from the f*cking Upper East Side to a f*cking performing arts school and on to a stage at the museum of f*cking wherever. That journey’s about four miles.”
The one hit wonder went on to gripe about Oprah giving her “the cold shoulder” at the event.
“She was with supermodel Iman and David Bowie, Iman was always dancing with me, hugging and kissing me, but Oprah seemed really pissed off with me.”
M.I.A. who is desperately trying to create a buzz for her new album “MAYA”
previously made headlines when she called Gaga “a good gimimick.”
I agree that lady Gaga is a gimmick and I also agree that Oprah
could have chosen someone else to praise, but at the end of the day who cares?
M.I.A needs to focus on trying to sell her album, I have yet to hear any of her new song on the radio…just saying

It’s interesting how the mighty have fallen Damon Dash’s Tribeca Loft is now officially in foreclosure.
Damon Dash has had a lot of trouble ever since his split with Jay-Z,
well things don’t appear to be getting better for the one time cocky a$$ Hip-Hop Mogul.
Dame has stopped paying $78,504.20-per-month mortgage payment, so it’s now going in to foreclosure.
he Bought the apt for 3 million, a few years ago he tried to sell it for 7 million,
but there were no takers…
the auction will take place tomorrow at 1:00 P.M.
I’m sorry but I don’t feel bad for Dame, I have seen way too many interviews where Dame bragged about
how he never had to wear the same draws or socks twice, he just threw them away.
he also stated that he didn’t do laundry, he said once he wears something one time,
he gives it away, so us poor folks can look fresh like him….
What Dame didn’t realize is that God giveth and God taketh away,
nothing is guaranteed in life….
you need be grateful for everything you have, and you most definitely need to be humble!
I hope the rest of these cocky Mogul learn from dame’s mistakes.
The listing for the loft states:
“This stunning 5,200 SF duplex loft boasts 20 foot ceilings in the living room, 4 bedrooms and 4 baths on TriBeCa’s best block. Add huge windows facing north and south, a mint kitchen and luxurious bathrooms, it leaves nothing to be desired. Located in the preeminent full service doorman building, the Atalanta, Must be seen!!”
one of Dame’s cocky interview…I bet he wears the same undergarments more then once now.
