SOPA opponents gaining momentum Wikipedia to join blackout
Jan 17th

source: redtape
UPDATED Jan. 16, 3:15 ET — Opponents of controversial federal anti-piracy legislation known as SOPA seem to be picking up steam. Supporters of the legislation in both houses of Congress appear have backed off, the Obama administration has expressed concerns with the legislation, and an Internet blackout slated for Wednesday is picking up supporters.
A House subcommittee was slated to prepare the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, for a vote later this month; the Senate had planned a vote on the companion bill, PIPA (The Protect IP Act,) even sooner. Now, it appears both votes will be delayed.
SOPA opponents are rallying around an effort to call attention to the legislation by convincing Web sites to “go dark” on Jan. 18, and display only a simple message of protest on a black background. On Monday, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales announced that his website will go dark for 24 hours starting at midnight ET Tuesday, following the lead of other high-profile promised blackouts. Reddit.com will go black from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The hacker group Anonymous also encouraged others to join in the 12-hour blackout, and garnered a lot of attention with its Twitter post using the hashtag #BlackoutSOPA.

Meanwhile, several signs point to SOPA legislation hitting some serious speedbumps. On Saturday, a statement issued by White House cyberczar Howard Schmidt, and other administration technology officials, threw cold water on SOPA’s anti-piracy efforts.
“Our analysis of the DNS filtering provisions in some proposed legislation suggests that they pose a real risk to cybersecurity and yet leave contraband goods and services accessible online,” says the response, referring to SOPA’s proposal to allow law enforcement officials to blacklist Web sites — cut them off from U.S. users — that allegedly encourage piracy. The response, posted at WhiteHouse.gov on Saturday, does not take a position on SOPA, but it cautioned lawmakers that the administration will opposed anti-piracy efforts that might increased censorship.
“Any effort to combat online piracy must guard against the risk of online censorship of lawful activity and must not inhibit innovation by our dynamic businesses large and small,” the memo reads.
In Congress, supporters of the legislation have recently indicated they are open to changing their proposals.
Late Friday afternoon, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), said he planned tone down enforcement powers that would be granted by the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). A new version would not include the most controversial provision, which would have enabled federal authorities to “blacklist” domains that were alleged to be involved in distribution of pirated content, effectively cutting portions of the Web off from all U.S. users.
“After consultation with industry groups across the country, I feel we should remove Domain Name System blocking from the Stop Online Piracy Act so that the Committee can further examine the issues surrounding this provision,” Smith, one of SOPA’s chief backers, said in a statement. “We will continue to look for ways to ensure that foreign websites cannot sell and distribute illegal content to U.S. consumers.”
These are two very frightening pieces of controversial legislation, SOPA and The NDAA they both go to stop our Constitutional Rights without the approval from Americans, just as the Patriot Act was adopted WITHOUT public approval or a vote just weeks after the events of 9/11. #WAKETHEHELLUP
Texas teen deported to Colombia back in US
Jan 8th

source: DALLAS (AP) —
A Texas teenager who was deported to Colombia after claiming to be an illegal immigrant was back in the United States on Friday,
and at the center of an international mystery over how a minor could be sent to a country where she is not a citizen.
The 15-year-old’s family has questioned why U.S. officials didn’t do more to verify her identity and say she is not fluent in Spanish and had no ties to Colombia.
While many facts of the case involving Jakadrien Lorece Turner remain unclear, U.S. and Colombian officials have pointed fingers over who is responsible.
Immigration experts say that while cases of mistaken identity are rare, people can slip through the cracks,
especially if they don’t have legal help or family members working on their behalf. But they say U.S. immigration authorities had the responsibility to determine if a person is a citizen.
“Often in these situations they have these group hearings where they tell everybody you’re going to be deported,” said Jacqueline Stevens, a political science professor at Northwestern University, who is an expert on immigration issues. “Everything is really quick, even if you understand English you wouldn’t understand what is going on. If she were in that situation as a 14-year-old she would be herded through like cattle and not have a chance to talk to the judge about her situation.”
Jakadrien was on a flight from Atlanta and would be in Dallas by evening, her mother, Johnisa Turner, told the Associated Press.
She had said earlier that she planned to meet her daughter when she arrives in the city.
“Our day has been hectic, hers is, too,” Turner said. “Just as long as she makes it home, just as long as she gets here.”
Turner said she has “a gazillion questions” for Jakadrien. Federal and local officials may have plenty, as well.
The saga began when the teen ran away more than a year ago. Jakadrien’s family said she left home in November 2010.
Houston police said the girl was arrested on April 2, 2011, for misdemeanor theft in that city and claimed to be Tika Lanay Cortez, a Colombian woman born in 1990.It was unclear if she has been living under that name.
Houston police said in a statement that her name was run through a database to determine if she was wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement but the results were negative.
She was then turned over to the Harris County jail and booked on the theft charge.
The county sheriff’s office said it ran her through the available databases and did the interviews necessary to establish her identity and immigration status in the country, with negative results. A sheriff’s office employee recommended that an immigration detainer be put on her, and upon her release from jail she was turned over to ICE.
U.S. immigration officials insist they followed procedure and found nothing to indicate that the girl wasn’t a Colombian woman living illegally in the country.
An ICE official said the teen claimed to be Cortez throughout the criminal proceedings in Houston and the ensuing deportation process, in which an immigration judge ultimately ordered her back to Colombia.
Standard procedure before any deportation is to coordinate with the other country in order to establish that person is from there, the ICE official said.
The ICE official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to not being authorized to discuss additional details of the case, said the teenager was interviewed by a representative from the Colombian consulate and that country’s government issued her a travel document to enter Colombia.
Jakadrien was issued travel documents at the request of U.S. officials using information they provided,
the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Colombian officials are investigating what kind of verification was conducted by its Houston consulate to issue the temporary passport.
The girl was given Colombian citizenship upon arriving in that country, the ICE official said.
According to the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the girl was enrolled in the country’s
“Welcome Home” program after she arrived there. She was given shelter, psychological assistance and a job at a call center, a statement from the agency said.
“If she looked like an adult, and she told them she was a 21-year-old Colombian citizen, and she didn’t show up in their databases, this was inevitable,” said Albert Armendariz, an immigration attorney from El Paso.
Jakadrien’s family says they have no idea why she ended up in Colombia. Johnisa Turner said the girl is a U.S. citizen who was born in Dallas and was not fluent in Spanish. She said neither she nor the teen’s father had ties to Colombia. Jakadrien’s grandmother, Lorene Turner, called the deportation a “big mistake somebody made.”
“She looks like a kid, she acts like a kid. How could they think she wasn’t a kid?” Lorene Turner asked on Thursday.
Lorene Turner, a Dallas hairstylist, said she spent a lot of time on the Internet trying to track down Jakadrien.
Ultimately, the girl was found in Bogota by the Dallas Police Department with help from Colombian and U.S. officials.
Dallas Police detective C’mon (pronounced Simone) Wingo, the detective in charge of the case, said she was contacted in August
by the girl’s grandmother, who said Jakadrien had posted “kind of disturbing” messages on a Facebook account where she goes by yet another name.
Wingo said the girl was located in early November through her use of a computer to log into Facebook. Relatives
were then put into contact with the U.S. embassy in Bogota to provide pictures and documents to prove Jakadrien’s identity.
Colombian officials said when the government discovered she was a U.S. citizen and a minor, it put her under the care of a welfare program.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the case was brought to the State Department’s attention in mid-December.
“We didn’t have any involvement at all in this case until it came to light that there may be a problem with an American minor in Colombia,
and that — and then we became involved both with Colombian authorities and with folks in Dallas,” Nuland said.
Stephen Yale-Loehr, who teaches immigration law at Cornell Law School, said hundreds of U.S. citizens are wrongfully detained or deported each year.
“There are a variety of legitimate reasons why somebody might not appear to be a U.S. citizen at first glance.” he said.
“It’s the duty of the U.S. federal immigration agency to make sure that we do not detain and deport U.S. citizens erroneously. And this, unfortunately happened in this case.”
” She was given shelter, psychological assistance and a job at a call center, a statement from the agency said.”
She was given a JOB, a place to live and counseling? hell She was doing better there than 1/3 of the people living in the USA.

Dallas Mavericks Win 2011 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Jun 14th

Dirk Nowitzki just proved to the entire NBA that a superstar surrounded by a balanced team of quality players will beat three superstars.
It took 6 games, but the Dallas Mavericks are the 2011 NBA Champions for the first time in franchise history. With a final score of 105-95, Miami will have to wait until next year to give their fans the championships they promised before the season started.
Dirk Nowtizki of course took home the MVP award.
It will be a long summer and a lot of questions that the Miami Heat team will have to find answers too.

MARIAH CAREY & NICK CANNON WELCOME THEIR TWINS
May 1st

Hollywood couple Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey officially welcomed twins over the weekend
the renowned R&B singer/actress gave birth to a boy and girl in Los Angeles.
It’s official — Mimi is now a mama! Mariah Carey gave birth to twins – a boy and a girl – on Saturday. The 41-year-old singing superstar gave birth at 12:07 p.m. at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles, Mariah’s rep, Cindi Berger, told the Associated Press. Nick and Mariah’s baby girl was reportedly born first, weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 18 inches long; while her brother was next, at 5 pounds 6 ounces, and was 19 inches. The twins coincidentally arrived on the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary.
Cannon also confirmed being a father via his Twitter page.
“Congratulations to Mariah & Nick on the birth of#dembabies!!” a rep wrote on the singer’s Twitter page. “Born, April 30th at 12:07pm ET. Mommy, Daddy & #dembabies are all doing fine!” Cannon added his sentiments on his Twitter page: “My wife just gave me the most incredible anniversary gift ever in life! I won’t ever be able to top this!”
The actor/rapper predicted Carey’s delivery would take place sooner than later.
And it was just as Cannon, 30, predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.
Last October, Carey revealed that she experienced a miscarriage around 2008.”The way it happened, so quickly at first, I didn’t know what to expect. That was not easy,” she admitted. “I’ve never really been a very forthcoming person about my personal stuff. It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult. When that happened … I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy.
Congratulations NIck and Mariah, ABOUT TIME!!
Flavor Flav may be moving his chicken shack to Sin City
Apr 13th

Flav took the Riviera boardroom by STORM Monday during a meeting with casino bigwigs — including CEO Andy Choy — and sources close to the deal tell TMZ, Operation Fried Chicken is basically a go in Sin City … pending some last minute number crunching and contract kinks.
It’d be a huge move up from his first location in rural Iowa — according to sources, Flav’s Fried Chicken would occupy some PRIME real estate inside the hotel … once the deal goes through.
Flavor Flav was supposed to be doing a reality show about him going back to high school, but according to recent reports that will not be happening… but never fear ANOTHER reality show is in the works. This one will center around his original “FFC” chicken restaurant in Clinton, Iowa and will give audiences the opportunity to see what it’s like running a franchise.
“As long as the content is right, it is very likely (to be picked up),” Flav said about the show, which he says will feel something like ‘Happy Days.’ “This is an idea I’ve been having for a while. When my manager told them about this idea, they jumped on it.”
New Video-Kelly Rowland ft Lil Wayne: Motivation
Apr 6th

Kelly Rowland is going the Kerri Hilson route by acting super freaky in her new music video called
“Motivation,” her latest single is also featuring alleged darkskin women basher Lil Wayne…
lol I guess him hooking up with Kelly, is supposed to make up for the “alleged” comments *shrugs*
Kelly’s third (still untitled) is set to hit stores sometime this summer…
I’m not huge Kelly Rowland fan, for some reason she has always been boring to me,
sorry just being honest, the video very sexual for a Kelly Rowland video,
I guess she is actually trying to keep people’s attention.
The song is not to bad, Lil Wayne has a new double lip piercing i’m kinda feeling it…
The sad thing is I was able to finish damn near all his sentences, when he was rapping
I don’t see how people say he’s so lyrical, he raps about the same thing over and over again.
“I love Wayne. I always have. I’ve always loved his style,” Kelly recently told MTV News. “I always love how you don’t know what’s going to come out of his mouth, and he’s so spontaneous and just witty. I love Wayne.”
Really kelly? spontaneous? maybe witty… but even that’s a stretch LOL.

“My attempt @ festiveness on 327! For ATLITL thank u + I♥U!” excitedly tweeted Mariah, who just turned 41 or 42, depending on which source you believe. “Comin soon #dembabies! LYMA+thanx 4 making me happy:).”
“So dem babies really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary! I started having contractions last night..went 2 the hospital,” she wrote (for some reason, she refers to her birthday as her anniversary). “Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control but … they almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: )”
This is what Nick’s goofy self tweeted lol:
“I am probably going to faint in the delivery room! I need to man up!” Cannon tweeted late last week. “Or maybe I should say WOMAN UP, since they are the ones that have to be the strongest in the whole ordeal!”
Michael Vick visits 1,000 inmates
Mar 22nd

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will be active this fall, whether there is football or not. He was joined on Saturday by former NFL coach Tony Dungy and 35 volunteers from Tampa-area Abe Brown Ministries in visiting about 1,000 inmates at a prison in Avon Park, Fla.
“It was very humbling and at the same time, a bit overwhelming. You really didn’t know what to expect,” Vick told The Associated Press. “Hopefully I can be an example to somebody. The thing that I was trying to get across is that we all can be instruments of change. That’s something that I’ve been proactive about since I stepped out of prison and I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
Vick says it was his first visit to a correctional facility since he served a 23-month sentence in federal prison for bankrolling a dogfighting ring. He is optimistic that there will be football next season. But even if there isn’t, Vick plans to continue to follow his Christian faith and give back to communities by visiting prisons with Dungy and on his own.
